"Do you understand what I have done for you?"

Hello friends! In trying to figure out what to write today, I was reading Chapter 13 of John; when Jesus washed His disciples' feet. I will summarize it here for you, but I do recommend reading the whole chapter on your own.

Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around Him. (Verses 3 -5)

When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. "Do you understand what I have done for you?" he asked them. "You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. I have set an example that you should do as I have done for you." (Verses 12-15)

After I finished reading the whole chapter, I was praying, asking Him what I shall write about, when I heard Him say, "Do you understand what I have done for you?" My tightly pressed-closed eyes flew open and I looked at my open Bible that is on my desk next to my computer. That is what Jesus had ask the disciples and that is what Jesus was asking me.

Jesus has not washed my feet, like the disciples', but He has done so many things for me - including dying for me, which was payment for my dept. "I have set an example that you should do as I have done for you." I felt Him say. Now He is not telling me to be crucified, but He is telling me to act like Christ.

The song from the jungle book just popped in my head, "You'll see its true-oo-oo someone like me-ee-ee can learn to be someone like you." He is my Teacher after all. If He can teach, I can learn. All it takes is for me to trust Him and listen for Him.

So, I will do that and I will smile along the way. My journey is not over and I have a long way to go to become any resemblance of Christ.

My friends, I hope you will smile along the way too. I hope you will grasp joy and carry it with you even when you are in the darkest valley. I know there is a lot of bad is this world, but when you take the time to look around, you will see the good always outweighs the bad, even if it doesn't seem like it.

And if you don't believe me, remember you opened your eyes today and you can see the world around you. You can smell your favorite food or drink. You can speak to your loved ones and be able to hear their voice. Because you can do all these things today, you are better off than some.
