Dropping Burdens And Sprouting… What?
Hello friends and welcome to Blogtober. This year’s concept is an autumnal metaphor that I came up with: In fall, trees drop dry, decaying leaves that are not beneficial to the tree. In the same manner, uswhobelieve, can drop things (at the feet of Jesus) that are not beneficial. And, just as the trees sprout new leaves, we can replace our ‘dead leaves’ with good.
Our ‘dead leaf’ that we can drop today is: burdens.
Google defines burden as a load, typically a heavy one. So, what exactly is our burden as Christians?
My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear.
Psalm 38:4
It’s guilt. But, thanks to Christ, we have grace and forgiveness. This is no longer a burden we have to carry.
“Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30
Jesus takes our burden and gives us rest. He replaces the once heavy load with a light one.
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:2
Because of our loads being lightened, we can now help with each other’s burdens.
So, as I was about to sum up this blog like always by searching the opposite of burden to see if it would help me discover what we can sprout in place of our ‘leaf’ today. I stopped in my tracks. The opposite of burden is purposelessness, meaninglessness, emptiness, and worthlessness.
It appears, my friends that this blog is not yet over. Wow! So without burden comes purposelessness?! That makes so much sense though! We draw our purpose from the burdens we carry. So, what burdens are you carrying? Is it a empty purpose that you are pursuing or are you fitted with the yoke of the Father – which is the true purpose for children of God. Whoa, this blog has made me think of burdens in a new light!
Our ‘leaf’ of burden has fallen away and now we can sprout… what? Purpose? Meaning? Worth? Rest? Maybe it should be grace or forgiveness. I’m going to leave this one open-ended. A ‘fill in the blank’ if you will. Drop your burdens and pick up what you need. And smile!
There is always joy to be found and joy to be had.
