Dropping Resentment And Sprouting Attentiveness

Hello friends and welcome to Blogtober. This year’s concept is an autumnal metaphor that I came up with: In fall, trees drop dry, decaying leaves that are not beneficial to the tree. In the same manner, uswhobelieve, can drop things (at the feet of Jesus) that are not beneficial. And, just as the trees sprout new leaves, we can replace our ‘dead leaves’ with good.

Our ‘dead leaf’ that we can drop today is: Resentment.

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in Heaven. He causes to sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and unrighteous.

Matthew 5:44-45

Instead of letting resentment sink in, and thus ruining our own mood and days, we should pray for those who persecute us, annoy us, or offend us. And, after all, who is it really affecting when we hold grudges? Us (and sometimes the people we love). It draws our attention away from important things like: work, our family, and even God - it makes us less attentive to the things that matter. It’s also a foothold for the enemy so we should ditch it.

Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

Colossians 3:13

Jesus knew we were going to do horrible things in life, yet He died for us anyway and forgave us anyway. If He die for our forgiveness, then we can forgive others.

See to it that no one falls sort of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.

Hebrews 12:15

We all fall short of God’s grace when we have allowed bitterness, resentment, and grudges into our hearts. We don’t need the headache and heartache of resentment. Let’s drop it. It will make us a better person and it will make this world a little better place.

Our ‘leaf’ of resentment has fallen away, and now we can sprout attentiveness. Do you know what comes with attentiveness? Joy. So, let’s spread some of that joy today.
