Jesus Presented in the Temple: Part Two
Hello friends! Welcome back to the twelve days of Christmas (Blog Edition), where we go over the birth of Jesus Christ; the true reason for the season. It is the tenth day and part two of the story of ‘Jesus Presented in the Temple’. Yesterday we stopped right when Simeon held the baby Jesus and right before he spoke. Let’s see what he said.
Luke 2:29-40: Jesus Presented in the Temple
“Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all people, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for the glory of your people in Israel.”
The child’s father and mother marveled at what was said about him. Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: “This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce you own soul too.”
There was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying. Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.
When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth. And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with the wisdom, and grace of God was upon him.
What wonderful things Simeon had to say about the babe. And how faithful Anna was to worship night and day in the temple. Mary and Joseph must have been delighted to hear what they both had to say about their child.
Find something to smile about today my friends. You live in a time of the New Testament. You are washed in the blood of Jesus. You are forgiven. So smile
