Pearls On A String {Peace, Security, Strength}
Hello friends and welcome to our biblical hunt for peace. Today our hunt is in the book of Psalms:
In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.
Psalms 4:8
Only when we are in Christ Jesus do we have security - real security. Sure other things can give us a false sense security, but everything that is of this earth will fade away. So, when we put our hope and sense of security in such things, we eventually will feel the rug pulled out from beneath our feet.
The verse above does remind me of another verse in this book:
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his names sake.
Psalms 23:1-3
Another verse in this series that is a peaceful verse despite not having our one-word theme in it.
The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.
Psalms 29:11
Ironically, I was just asking someone to pray for me for strength. But after asking for strength and praying for strength, I've been very at peace today.
You know, I've been noticing a pattern throughout my entire Christianity, everything seems to link up; what God's been telling me, what I've been reading in my Bible, what I've heard at church, encouragement someone may have given me, (and now what I'm writing in my blog, and what I'm teaching in Sunday school). The same topics all seem to connect around the same time span. It's so funny how it all links up like pearls on a string. (Another blog metaphor?) I think it's God's way of solidifying all that He's been telling me.
But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy peace and prosperity.
Psalms 37:11
Now-a-days, the word meek is looked at as a synonym for weak, but when you define it...
Meek: quiet, gentle, and easily imposed on; submissive.
Why has this been viewed as weakness? Sure, if you are easily imposed on and submissive to everyone, you will be stepped on and viewed as weak, but when you are easily imposed on and submissive to the Lord, then that is the opposite of weakness if you ask me. That's hard to do and requires strength! (And the word strength appears again in this blog! String of pearls anyone?)
So, back to our verse, the quiet, the gentle, and the submissive will inherit the land and enjoy peace and prosperity.
Well, my friends, I hope this encourages you to put your sense of security in the only real secure place - God. I hope my words encourage you to be meek (quiet, gentle, easily imposed on, and submissive to the Lord). Let Him impose on your day, your life, and your joy so that you can smile and feel secure.
P.S. I just realized, quiet links to our be still we've mentioned along our journey to dwell on peace, therefore it links to the second word God gave me - meditate. I'm telling you guys, PEARLS ON A STRING!
