Sent To Set Free

Hello friends and welcome to our final part of finding freedom in the Bible. Before we get started, I want to mention that I created a Facebook group for my blog updates, blog posts, and to stay better connected with my readers. I hope you will join us. I will provide the link here for you: https://www.facebook.com/groups/201768595122409

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

Galatians 5:1

Somehow I missed this one when we visited Galatians in this Biblical hunt. I'm glad it got added to a post this month at least. Do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery because Jesus set us free so that we can actually be free, but when you let things that once enslaved you bother you, it defeats the point. Drop it at His feet!

"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim the good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of the sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."

Luke 4:18-19

This verse came straight from the mouth of Jesus, and since this is the only verse in our series that does, I want to go over this one in great detail:

He has anointed me/sent me:

  • To proclaim the good news to the poor

  • To proclaim freedom for the prisoners

  • To proclaim recovery of the sight for the blind

  • To set the oppressed free

  • To proclaim the year of the Lord's favor

If Jesus had said this in our modern day world, I would be categorized as the poor, the prisoner, the blind, and the oppressed. Now, I am not physically poor, in prison, oppressed, or blind.

But before I knew Him:

  • I was poor, meaning lacking in God's knowledge which is worth more than diamonds.

  • I was a prisoner to sin.

  • I was oppressed and subjected to death.

  • I was blind, meaning I could not see because of my earthly mentality.

Jesus was sent to not only save the ones who were actually poor, imprisoned, oppressed, and blind; but He was sent to save me. He was sent to save you. He was sent to proclaim the good news, freedom, recovery of sight, and the year of the Lord's favor. I choose to smile about that today and I hope you will join me.

My friends, our journey to explore freedom is coming to an end, but don't fret. I have more exciting things to come in August. Thursday, I will write to you again where we will recap what we've discussed about freedom.
