The Birth of Jesus

Hello friends! Welcome back to the twelve days of Christmas (Blog Edition), where we go over the birth of Jesus Christ; the true reason for the season. It is the sixth day. Today we will go over Luke’s rendition of the events of Christ’s birth and on Christmas Eve, we will go over Matthew’s. On Christmas day, the twelfth and final day, will be a summary of everything we have went over.

Luke 2: 1-7: The Birth of Jesus

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to his own town to register.

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Mary and Joseph had to go to their hometown to complete the first ever census by issued decree. Mary was well into her pregnancy by this point. How scary it must have been to travel, knowing that you would give birth any day. But it was all in God’s plan and Mary hadn’t a need to worry.

The king of kings and the Lord of Lord’s was meant to be born in a stable. I think this was a message from God. Riches and wealth do not matter. What matters is if you are a child of God. The word became flesh, and that flesh was sacrificed for all. Smile, my friends. What a sacrifice. What a notion of love. Praise God.
