The Love God Has For Us - A Verse Hunt
Hello friends and welcome back to Abounding In Love. It's time for our Biblical hunt! Today, we will look for the word we have been reverting back to in this series - love! But this time, I want to put the verses into different groups. Those of you who might of seen my introductory blog on this series will recognize these groups:
The love God has for us
The love we have for Him
The love we have for others
Today, we are just going to focus on the first one! As we go through all of our verses, it feels only right to look for the action that God shows in His love, just like we've discussed earlier in this series. I will put the ones I find in { }, as well as a couple of questions I can't help but ask myself. Let's start in Isaiah:
"Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed," says the Lord, who has compassion on you.
Isaiah 54:10
As I read this one, I can't help but feel as though His is speaking straight to me. Nothing can take away His love for me.
{His unfailing love will not be shaken and covenant of peace will not be removed. How does a peacemaker show love?}
For great is your love, reaching to the heavens;
your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
Psalms 57:10
All the way to the heavens and all the way into the depths is His love for us.
{His faithfulness reaches to the skies. How does being faithful to someone prove your love?}
Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.
Psalms 63:3
This verse has stuck with me. I even considered getting a tattoo of this one at some point, but decided to not get any more tattoos.
{He has proven that His love is better than anything life can offer via Christ Jesus. How does sacrifice, in any kind relationship, strengthen love?}
Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
Lamentations 3:22
It is only because of His love that we are free, saved, delivered.
{His compassions never fail. How does being compassionate to others show love?}
Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline.
So be earnest and repent.
Revelation 3:19
Just as a father must discipline and teach his child, the Father must do this to us. This is just another sign of His love.
{He treats me as His child. What qualities make a good father? How can we relate those qualities back to God? How does discipline show love?}
Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved,
clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another, if any of you has grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in unity.
Colossians 3:12-14
We are chosen, holy, and dearly loved... wow! And it says 'over all these virtues put on love', meaning love is the most important and love ties them all together.
{He has forgiven me. How does forgiveness prove love?}
But because of his great love for us,
God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions - it is by grace you have been saved.
Ephesians 2:4-5
I mentioned how we obtained the keys to the Kingdom in the last part and I feel like this verse is another example of that. His love is great indeed.
{It is by His grace that we are saved. How does being gracious show love? And, most importantly of all, how do I back my love up with these actions?}
That, my friends, is a question I want to keep asking myself; it's something I want to remind myself to do. I hope you will join me, that you will grasp some joy in today, and I hope you liked the new layout of this blog.
