The Riches of Grace
Hello friends and welcome back to our theme this month - grace. Last week we went over grace's many definitions and today we are going to look at what the Bible says about grace.
But since you excel in everything - in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you - see that you also excel in grace of giving.
2 Corinthians 8:7
This ties into what we talked about last week - do everything in grace with grace.
But to each of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. This is why it says:
"When he ascended on high, he took many captives and gave gifts to his people."
Ephesians 4:7
This reminds me of one of our definitions of grace: A divinely given talent or blessing.
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding.
Ephesians 1:7 & 8
This is the root of grace - in other words we have struck gold because His grace is worth more than any gold or silver. Also notice how it says 'God's grace that he lavished on us'. Lavished! The word lavished means bestow something in generous or extravagant quantities on. He didn't just give us His grace, He gave us His grace.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:14
He came full of grace and truth. Noticing a theme? Lavished.. Full.. He doesn't not lack grace nor do we whom He gave grace to.
Tomorrow we will continue in our grace hunt through the books of the Bible, but as for today, smile. You have God's grace who didn't only give it to you, He gave it to you generously, so let it lift the corners of your mouth.
