The True Meaning of Christmas

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believed in him shall not perish but have eternal live.

John 3:16

Hello friends! Welcome to the final installment of the twelve days of Christmas (Blog Edition), where we go over the birth of Jesus Christ; the true reason for the season. It is the twelfth day. Merry Christmas! I hope you guys a wonderful day full of joy, peace, and love. Today we will summarize what we have read about the events before and after Jesus’ birth.

God sent an angel to a virgin named Mary, who was to be married to a man named Joseph. The angel told Mary that she was highly favored and was to give birth to a son. She was to name the child Jesus, and He will be called the Son of the Most High and Immanuel, ‘God with us’. So, Mary was filled with the Holy Spirt and conceived. Joseph didn’t want to expose her to public disgrace, so he had planned to divorce her quietly, when an angel of the Lord appeared to him. The angel told him to take Mary home to be his wife, for what is conceived in her was from the Holy Spirt and about the prophesy. So, he did as the angel said.

Elizabeth, Mary’s relative was currently in her sixth month of pregnancy, experiencing her own miracle, for she was in her old age and previously known as barren, for nothing is impossible with God. Mary visited Elizabeth and when Elizabeth heard her greeting, the baby leaped in her womb. Mary sang praised to God in anticipation for her child, the Savior, to be born. Elizabeth gave birth to John the Baptist who was to go before Christ to prepare the way for Him. John’s father, Zechariah, also sang praises to God for the miracles of his own son, the prophet, and Jesus who would be born soon.

Then Caesar Augustus issued a decree that everyone should go to their hometown to take the very first census. So Joseph and Mary went to Bethlehem, the town of David, because he belonged to the line of David. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born. There was no room in the inn for them, so a shepherd let them use his stable. Mary gave birth to her first son, wrapped him in cloths, and placed him in a manger (animal trough).

An angel appeared to shepherds in the fields nearby and told them the good news, so they went to visit the child. Afterwards, they spread the word and praised God. Soon after, King Herod sent Magi (Wise Men) in search of Jesus. They found the babe, worshipped Him, and gave Him gifts. When Jesus was presented in the Temple to be circumcised, Simeon, a righteous and devout man, and a prophetess, Anna, said good things and praises over the babe.

Jesus was the ultimate gift to us from God. He is our salvation. So, my friends, smile about that today and celebrate the birth of Christ today. We didn’t deserve Him, but God is so good and gracious. And have a very Merry Christmas! I will write to you guys next on the first. Going to take some time off from blogging.
