Whoever Has the Son has Life

Hello friends! Well, we are in the final chapter of 1 John. I think this will be another two-parter so we will have one more installment of this series. I hope you guys have enjoyed it so far.

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father love his child as well. This is how we know that we the child of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes Jesus is the Son of God. (Verses 1 - 5)

When we love someone; we tend to do things for them. Things that would normally seem burdensome or tedious. For example, on the weekends, I make breakfast for my husband; even though when I wake up I do not feel like cooking. In the mornings, I normally just grab a cup of coffee, and every now and again, a quick bowl of cereal. But making breakfast for him doesn't feel burdensome because I love him.

In this way, when you are of the Father, keeping His commands doesn't feel like a chore. Sure, I struggle with keeping His commands, for I am a sinner. But because I believe, I feel better being on the right path with God. Have I ever stepped off the path? Tons of times, more than I'd like to admit. Life gets hectic and my earthly mentality clouds my heavenly one. But guess what... He has already forgiven me for past, present, and future shortcomings. Long point short: obeying Him makes me more joyful than not obeying Him; thus it is not burdensome.

This is the one who came by water and blood - Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. For there are three that testify; the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the testimony, but God's testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son. Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son does not have life. (Verses 6 - 12)

Whoever has the Son has the fullness of life. They have purpose and value. They have the light of life and God's plans for their life.

God has put in place a plan for your life. Long before the Son died on the cross before Sin, long before you were born, and long before your first breath. He has a plan and His plans are to prosper you. He knows your struggles past, present, and future. And your problems are never too big for Him. Don't carry them alone. Let the Light of the world take the weight from your shoulders. Let him embrace you in His fold and ignore any hate that comes from others because what they say doesn't matter, what matters is what the Lord says about you. Period.
