Humble Submission & The Nine Fruits - We Are Worthy Of Joy
Hello friends and welcome back to our Submission Series. We took a two week break from this series and I am eager to jump back into it. Today, we continue on in our Biblical hunt for submission.
Our key word for this blog is: humble.
For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.
Luke 14:11
When we humble ourselves and submit to God, He will exalt us. Humility is never an easy task, but knowing our place and God's place, makes it easier. He is above all and we, well, we are microscope worthy in comparison.
But he gives us more grace. That is why scripture says: "God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble." Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
James 4:6-7
The more humble we are, the more God shows us favor and grace. And humility helps us think before we act and speak which prevents arguments and chaos. We are meant to be peacemakers after all! Humility also helps in the submission process.
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
Ephesians 4:2
Let's do that thing where we define words we already know! Gentle: having or showing a mild, kind, or tender temperament or character. Humble: having or showing a modest or low estimate of ones importance. So, we should show a tender temperament and a modest estimate of our importance.
Again, just knowing our place in this world, compared to God's, really puts things into prospective. That doesn't mean that we aren't important at all. We have God's breath in our lungs, so we are worthy of living and worthy of having joy (*clears throat*)
So, my friends, I hope you grasp that thing called joy today. After all, submission isn't rigid rules and regulations. It's love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control. Did you catch what I did there? These are the 9 fruits of the Spirit and they are the perfect way to describe submission because when we submit to God is when we see these fruits firsthand.
